Dear Camp Families,
It is with great sorrow that we are writing to let you know that we have made the very difficult decision to cancel the 2020 summer camp season.

Coming to this decision has been incredibly challenging for our year-round staff and for our small business, and we know that it is a sad day for you as well.

During the last few weeks, we have considered every aspect of individual health, community health, childcare requirements, government regulation, and risk to our business. We have been consulting with health professionals, devising contingency plans, alternative operation guidelines, and having regular communication and meetings with our accreditation association (American Camp Association) and the Western Association of Independent Camps (WAIC). While closing camp is difficult, we cannot “guess” or “hope” that things will change enough in the coming weeks to safely and effectively operate. Our primary objective has always been to create a community of the safest environment possible and, with many factors still unknown about COVID-19, we do not see a path forward for camp this summer.

This would be Tocaloma’s 75th summer. S E V E N T Y-F I V E years of fostering the adventure of childhood. We have always been a place of inclusion and tradition where children can be children, sing, laugh and grow together. Our community is based on hugs, high fives, three-legged races, carnival days and spirit rallies. We are built on being close enough to giggle together and relish in the joy on each others faces- essentially, we are the opposite of social distancing. The very essence of our program is incompatible with the limited group sizes and strict form of social distancing which are, for the next few months, the primary methods of slowing the spread of the virus.

We have been so grateful for your patience as we carefully monitored and evaluated the information about the virus and hoped for a different outcome. We know that this is the best decision for the well-being of our campers, our staff, and our camp families.

We will be back in 2021 and can’t wait to see you and C E L E B R A T E. In the meantime, we are working on a variety of ways to stay connected with campers over the summer through interactive online and social media events (live round ups and events, classes and more!) We will continue to serve our camp families in ways that fit with the realities of our current situation.

There is nothing you need to do right now. Our office remains closed. We will be sending out a form by 5/20 with options for how you can proceed with the money you’ve paid for camp.

Many of you have reached out with so much kindness and concern, it’s left us speechless and incredibly moved. Thank you for appreciating what we offer and seeing so much value in it. Those comments have been a salve during this incredibly stressful time.

We wish your family a safe summer and look forward to camp in 2021 where we can gather and play and high five with abandon.

Best,Tiffany & Erica
